Caroline Frey – Aloxe Corton
After crafting acclaimed wines at family estates Hermitage La Chapelle and Château La Lagune, Caroline Frey established herself in Burgundy in 2015 by acquiring Château Corton C. in Aloxe-Corton,a historic estate spanning 7.5 hectares of very old vines, including some monopoles. Despite limited volumes, she has invested heavily in quality, building a new winery in 2018 equipped with modern ovoid concrete tanks, temperature control, and a refined ageing regime combining oak (around 30% new) and Clayver (ceramic vessels). All the wines are organic.
Wine style : The wines are consistently elegant, with finely integrated tannins, restrained oak, excellent balance, and a seamless interplay of juicy red and black fruit aromas.
Classic in style, with extra finesse on this beautiful range of terroirs. On top of that, the estate releases the wines only when they are ready to drink—a rare policy today.
Why Vibrant : : I tasted the wines at the estate and was struck by the consistency across the range and the evident care devoted to achieving high quality. On top of that, the estate offers ready-to-drink vintages (like 2019) at a very fair price!
