Claudine petitjean
chassagne montrachet

Few names in Burgundy are associated with vineyards as rare as Claudine Petitjean. Claudine Petitjean owns two exceptional parcels in Chassagne Montrachet.

Since 1991, Claudine Petitjean has been one of the smallest owners of the legendary Montrachet Grand Cru, producing just around 300 bottles a year.

Her tiny parcel has been in the family since the 1920s, when her great-grandfather, Jean-Baptiste, bought it long before Montrachet became one of the world's most coveted vineyards.

Today, this garden-sized plot is meticulously farmed by hand by Domaine Lamy-Pillot (Sébastien Caillat). As Claudine jokes, “We practically roll out the red carpet between the rows.”

Located on the Chassagne side of Montrachet, within the historic Dents de Chien sector, her Chassagne Montrachet Remilly plot sits just above Blanchots-Dessus and is guided under the supervision of the nephew of Claudine, Xavier Monnot, a winemaker in Meursault. This plot comes from a nearby rocky hillside only a few hundred metres away, sharing the same exceptional pedigree.

Chassagne Montrachet En Remilly
Positioned between Puligny and Chassagne, bordering Chevalier Montrachet, En Remilly's limestone and rocky terroir consistently produces Chardonnay of outstanding tension, freshness and mineral precision. The Petitjean parcel reflects the vineyard's distinctive personality of citrus, white orchard fruit and delicate floral aromas layered over a finely textured palate, finishing with the chalky, saline minerality that has made En Remilly one of Burgundy's benchmark vineyards.
Montrachet Grand Cru 2023
Production: Approximately 300 bottles
Among the rarest expressions of Montrachet Grand Cru, this crown jewel originates from just 0.054 hectares of 65 years old vines, making it the smallest privately owned holding in the appellation. Situated at the south western corner of Montrachet beside Blanchots-Dessus, it delivers a refined interpretation of this legendary Grand Cru. Under Sébastien Caillat's stewardship, vineyards are farmed with meticulous attention to detail and vinified using the same philosophy that has established his domaine wines.
Rather than sheer richness, the wine emphasises elegance and precision—white flowers, citrus zest, crushed chalk and remarkable mineral energy carried by extraordinary length and finesse.
