Francois Morente

Founded in 2012, Francois Morente journey began with a simple but radical step: acquiring in Burgundy a tiny parcel from a winemaker friend to understand wine from the ground up.
What followed is anything but ordinary—a high school physics teacher evolving into a meticulous grower and winemaker, managing his vines meticulously. Today, each bottle captures the pure, unfiltered expression of that journey.
Domaine Morente is a true micro-estate, led by a hands-on, detail-driven craftsman. Production remains very limited—just 3,500 to 4,000 bottles annually—ensuring absolute precision and uncompromising quality. Rooted in organic farming, he works with respect for the land, intervening only when necessary. His 0.36-hectare parcel in the Hautes-Côtes-de-Beaune (Pommard) is planted at an exceptional density of 20,000 vines per hectare. Massal selections of Pinot Noir from Clos des Épenots, now 10 years old, deliver wines of striking energy, purity, and depth. The vineyard is tended like a garden: horse ploughing, manual work, and rigorous shoot thinning. In the cellar: strict sorting, partial whole-cluster vinification, 12 months in barrel followed by 4 months in tank, no sulfur added.
Alongside the estate, Francois develops a small, highly selective négociant activity. Organic Chardonnay is sourced from dedicated growers in the Mâconnais, while top-quality Grenache comes from a trusted estate in the Gard. The result: a focused yet dynamic range—where Burgundy precision meets broader expression, reinterpreting each terroir with finesse and identity without any intrants.
