One of Chambolle-Musigny's historic estates is back. After nearly twenty years of silence, Domaine Modot-Guyon was revived in 2022 by sixth-generation vigneron Adrien Guyon, restoring a family legacy dating back to 1820.
The estate ceased production in 2004 following the tragic passing of the family's eldest son, who was due to succeed his father. With no immediate successor, the vineyards were leased under fermage and the cellar fell silent. After training at leading estates, including Domaine de la Vougeraie, Adrien returned to take back the family vineyards as they gradually reverted to the estate.
Cultivated by the Modot family since 1820 and meticulously maintained throughout the lease period, the estate's remarkable 60- to 80-year-old vines remain in exceptional condition. Their perfect ripeness allows extensive whole-cluster fermentation while preserving the purity and mineral expression that define Chambolle-Musigny.
The inaugural 2022 vintage spans from Coteaux Bourguignons to Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées. Other prestigious parcels, including Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes, are still sold to négociants while the estate completes its redevelopment and are expected to join the range in the coming years.
Adrien follows a minimalist philosophy in both vineyard and cellar: horse ploughing, native fermentations, whole-cluster use, gentle extraction, restrained élevage and bottling unfined and unfiltered. The ambition is simple: to produce authentic Chambolle-Musigny where the vineyard speaks first.
